Why does the Mall have three websites?
Well there is a long and short explanation; the short one is this... We have three websites to accommodate Cytonians with low speed Internet connections and/or underpowered PC's as well as those on high-speed connections with more powerful PC's. There is a low bandwidth site for the dialup users, and a high bandwidth site that includes DHTML and the use of flash. The third web site came about despite the fact that the mall previously had a script based website, and the stats showed that its potential was underused. Most people simply wanted to access the rules pages and the scale. All of the bells and whistles were mostly unwanted (as demonstrated by page hit statistics, and few if any free site memberships taken up). Once again it has been suggested it might be good for the mall users to have such a site, so one more was added to the other two :) |

Why did it take so long to upgrade the Mall Web Site? |

Why did it take so long to upgrade the Mall Web Site? I (QB-161) started at the Mall when I was asked to step in and assist the Mall to recover from the disaster, when the plug was pulled on all externally hosted mall material and scripts. Since then the Mall web host has been changed or moved more than seven times. Each time the host was changed, the facilities and services available also changed. Despite certain technical problems things looked up with the last host, until after installing a portal based web site like this one, the site along with Moonhosting vanished without warning, overnight. All of this required a basic simple site that could be moved almost anywhere and run without delay. This is what we had until this latest move. Having now allowed some time to check the stability of the current hosting, we can move forward once again. Hopefully this will be the last move forced upon us, and the last upgrade delay. |
