& Job Requirements
(2006)

Rules and Guidelines for Mall Staff

(Menu)
The Staff of the Cybertown Mall have responsibilities that transcend providing the citizens of Cybertown with VRML objects for their homes. They are also the sentinels who safeguard Cybertown itself from offensive and harmful materials, which from time to time can become uploaded to the Mall due to naiveté, ignorance or sometimes malice. The Mall Staff must, therefore, be vigilant and observant of all objects that are submitted to them for approval. They are persons of high moral character, wide Real Life and Virtual Life experience, who free themselves from private agendas in order to perform their duties as members of the Mall Staff. They make every effort to remain fair and objective in their evaluations of objects, and also in their dealings with the creators and the public.

Minimum Job Requirements (Menu)
Mall Manager/Deputy
Mall Manger should preferably have experience as a Mall Deputy, with experience as well as a manager or a leader of a Hood, Colony or other Place in CT.

Mall personnel must have a clean record with Security and No prior upload Banns.

Mall personnel must be at least 18 years of age.

Mall personnel must have experience with VRML, minimum poster knowledge.

Mall personnel must have 5000 minimum exp points + 1 year minimum Residence.

Ideally, there should be at least 1 Manager, 2 Checkers, 3 Droppers (preferably in different time zones), and 1 Copyright Checker. As this is not always possible, Mall Deputies frequently share their duties among the Staff. The hiring of more Deputies with similar or additional duties is at the discretion of the Mall Manager.

Mall Deputy/Checker (Menu)

  1. Check all objects uploaded to the mall using a number of tools, guidelines, CT Constitution, UBP, and Mall Rules.
    1. Tools used during checks - CT Check page ,VRML Pad, Spazz3D, Vizx3D (the new version of Spazz in beta), Internet Explorer, UTA reject notice list (prewritten standard reject notices to post when rejecting objects).
    2. Websites - google.com and yahoo are primarily for copyright searches, assorted 3D and 2D sites for terms of use.
  2. Pricing/dropping - all accepted checked objects must be priced by removing the price from the price field and inserting the price next to the object name field using parentheses (price) and then dropped in the warehouse for those who drop.
  3. Holds - after accepting hold objects (AAHOLD and CITYHOLD):
    1. Change price field to zero.
    2. Drop hold in warehouse.
    3. Buy all instances of hold from warehouse (whether 10 or 30, etc. Occasionally if it is a CITYHOLD, the quantity will be left in if there are the unlimited city/colony holds of them, the owner's name (or person’s name designated as pickup) is placed in BUYER field and floor model is dropped in HOLDS DEPOT).
    4. Change price field to 1000cc’s for all instances of Personal Holds, 10cc’s for all instances of CITY HOLDS.
    5. Place owner's name in BUYER field for all instances.
    6. Go to HOLDS DEPOT and drop all HOLDS from backpack to DEPOT.
    7. Return to warehouse, destroy all floor models of all HOLDS dropped in HOLDS DEPOT.
    8. Calculate the total number of holds checked and dropped, for AAHOLD multiple by 1000, for CITYHOLD multiple by 10. Add these two numbers together; deposit that amount in Mall Fund box. Your funds will be automatically returned after pick up.
  4. Posting - accept lists are posted to the new Accept List message board. At this point we include the total number of objects checked, the total number of objects accepted, the total number of objects rejected and total number of objects pended. Recently, we have added the HTML code to allow people to see the 2D thumbnail by clicking the accepted object name in the post, opening a new window.
  5. Rejects - utilize the UTA reject list for standard mall object rejects. Assist the creator when needed if there is something they don't understand.

General: (Menu)

  • Cleaning Stores is a duty shared by all Mall Deputies or assigned to one or a few persons.
  • Sold out items may be removed after 4 days (2 in busy stores such as Fine Arts, Posters, Large, Collectibles, and sometimes Holiday). After 2 months, items will be removed, sold out or not. A list of removed items will be posted on the Remove Message Board.
  • Answering questions and concerns posted on Message Board and inbox is a duty shared by all staff, as is deleting non-mall related messages from the Message Board.
  • Mall Staff may not give out sensitive information about an item or creator to persons unrelated to the Mall, unless required to do so by City Council, Security, or the Mall Review Board. Sensitive information includes suspected copyright infringements, inboxes with a "personal" content, etc. If someone has been shown to break the Mall rules and has received punishment, the Mall Staff is allowed to explain this to those individuals responsible for the welfare of Cybertown. If a person chooses to post personal problems with the Mall publicly, they will be considered to have given their approval to the Mall Staff to disclose information that might otherwise be considered "sensitive". Furthermore, if an item is thought to be another creator's copyright, Mall Staff is allowed to contact that creator.

Checks: (Menu)

  • Items are checked according to what is listed under the “Rules and Guidelines for Mall Creators”, which apply equally to all creators.
  • When an object is rejected, a letter will be sent to the creator's inbox stating why the object was rejected and offering a solution to its eventual acceptance.
  • Pending items are items that need clearance from the Mall Manager, Security or the Copyright Checker.
  • Providing there are two checkers available, they may check each other’s items.
  • At the check, the date of the check is added and the price is removed from the price field of the item, making it impossible to buy.
  • All accepted objects will be posted on the Accept List Message Board

Drops: (Menu)

  • Mall Staff do not have the right to buy items ahead of other shoppers. They do, however, have the right to buy items during the drop, assuming it has been announced that the item is set and available.
  • When an item is dropped, and MD must check that the date is changed to the drop date, and the price is re-entered according to what is in the item's name field, so that items can be bought.
  • There are 2 ways to do an announced drop:
    1. An MD can set up all the items in 3d before the announcement, and then go back through and set the price, making them available for purchase.
    2. An MD can announce the drop first, then drop in 3d and set the items during the drop.
  • If an MD is doing an announced drop, it is preferred that the MD wait for all of the people who are attending that drop be present before setting the items. Also, when announcing the item about to be set, an MD should wait a couple of moments (A good practice would be to count “1...2...3 Set”, for example). This gives everyone a fair chance to open the object window and a good chance at buying the items.
  • Mall Staff has the right to do silent (unannounced) drops, but only if they have a valid reason (e.g. shortage of time, technical difficulties or problems with people harassing others during drops, etc.). A silent drop is not allowed in order to acquire some or all of an item being dropped (note: buying one copy of an item, during the drop, is allowed, as always). A silent drop must not be announced to anyone, not even another MD unless it is for training purposes; after the drop is complete, it should be announced publicly in the Mall (and possibly other places, such as the Flea Market and Black Market), but never to only a select few. Please do NOT use all caps when announcing, bright colors are preferred over ALL CAPS. (Examples: /white New Items are now set for Sale in the Stores! Or /white DROP beginning in COLLECTIBLES in 5 minutes!)
  • Guidelines for Dropping in 3d:
    1. An MD may NOT drop objects in the entrance or middle of stores which prevents entering 3d mode.
    2. An MD may place smaller items on stands provided in the stores.
    3. An MD should place posters against the walls of a store at eye level, but not blocking display stands for smaller objects.
    4. An MD must take care not to place items in the walls or backwards, beaming to them after dropping is recommended.
    5. An MD may NOT move previously dropped items if there is no quantity (will create a glitch), if you need to move it and it has quantity please pick it up and re-drop it and re-set the price. If there is no room in the 3dstore, an MD may choose to drop the item in another store.
    6. An MD drops holds in the Holds Depot when there is room and if no inbox message has been received which may ask that the item not be dropped there.
  • All dropped objects will be listed on the Drop Message Board.

Mall Review Board (Menu)

The MRB is an objective unit of three people (one World Builder, one Security representative and one CERB representative) that will assist both Mall Staff and creators/buyers. Mall Staff can submit questionable items (e.g. artwork that might be considered offensive) for a second opinion from the Board. Creators can appeal rejections and punishments if they feel these have been issued wrongfully. Any mall related conflict with or alleged misbehavior of Mall Staff can also be brought to the attention of this Board.

All members of this board must remain objective in their work, and judge by the Mall and CT rules, not by "personal alliances".
